Description Frankincense – Pea Size Pieces Frankincense, also known as Olibanum, is an aromatic resin obtained from trees of the Boswellia genus. It has been traded across the Arabian Peninsula, North Africa, and Somalia for over 5,000 years. Frankincense is used in perfumery, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and aromatherapy. When burned on charcoal, these pea-sized pieces release a balsamic-spicy aroma with a hint of lemon and a subtle conifer-like undertone. Traditionally, frankincense has been used in aromatherapy to lift mood and promote a sense of well-being. Frankincense also has a long history in religious and spiritual practices. It is commonly used in Christian churches, including Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, and Catholic traditions. In the Gospel of Matthew (2:11), frankincense was one of the gifts brought to Jesus by the Magi. Across Abrahamic faiths, frankincense has also been mixed with oils to anoint newborns, initiates, and individuals entering new phases of spiritual life.
