Description Frankincense – Eritrea 1st Choice Frankincense, also known as Olibanum, is an aromatic resin obtained from Boswellia trees in Eritrea. It has been traded across the Arabian Peninsula, North Africa, and the Horn of Africa for over 5,000 years. Frankincense is valued in perfumery, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and aromatherapy. When burned on charcoal, this resin produces a balsamic-spicy aroma with subtle lemon notes and a conifer-like undertone. Traditionally, it is used in aromatherapy to lift mood and support a sense of well-being. Frankincense has a long history in religious and spiritual traditions. It is used in many Christian churches, including Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, and Catholic practices. In the Gospel of Matthew (2:11), frankincense was one of the gifts presented to Jesus by the Magi.
