Native to southern China, southern Korea, northern Vietnam, and Japan, Jiaogulan (Gynostemma pentaphyllum) is a deciduous climbing vine. In China, people call it the “Herb of Immortality.” Traditionally, people have used Jiaogulan as an adaptogen and rejuvenating herb. Jiaogulan is rich in antioxidants. It contains saponins, trace minerals, amino acids, proteins, and vitamins. Its phenolic compounds provide powerful antioxidant activity. Jiaogulan also contains high amounts of gypenosides, a group of triterpene saponins similar to ginsenosides found in Panax ginseng. As a result, Jiaogulan offers many of the same benefits as ginseng. However, it may support natural blood sugar regulation even more effectively. We also offer a standardized Jiaogulan extract that has been concentrated to contain a minimum of 98% gypenoside.
