Description Applications Day and night creams Face cleansers and deep hydrating emulsions Face and eye-contour creams Hypoallergenic tested creams Make-up: mascara, creamy foundations and eye-liners Sun-screen and after-sun products Baby care products Hair conditioning creams Self tanning products INCI: Cetearyl Olivate (and) Sorbitan Olivate Olivem 1000 has a melting temperature of ~70°C and should be added to the heated oil phase. While an HLB value has been provided to us by the manufacturer, Olivem 1000’s chemistry does not really work based on the HLB system. Its emulsification mechanism is based on liquid crystal formation and therefore the HLB value is not so critical for this emulsifier. Olivem 1000 has a maximum recommended oil-phase of ~25% (including the emulsifier). We find the stability of Olivem 1000 is improved with the addition of a water-phase thickener like our Xanthan Gum (Soft or Clear), used at about 0.2%. Typical usage rates: Low Viscosity (serums and lotions): 3 – 4% High Viscosity (lotions and creams): 7 – 8% Appearance: Off White Flakes Solubility: Soluble in oil Melting temperature: ~70°C SAP Value: 90-120 pH (sol 15%): 5-7 HLB: 9 – Almond Oat Balm to Milk Cleanser – Heated phase 9.45g | 31.5% sweet almond oil 3g | 10% coco-caprylate or Hemisqualane 3g | 10% castor oil 3g | 10% Olivem1000 3.9g | 13% cetyl alcohol 3g | 10% colloidal oatmeal (ultra-fine oat flour) 4.5g | 15% white kaolin clay – Cool down phase 0.15g | 0.5% Vitamin E – Prepare a water bath by bringing about 3cm of water to a bare simmer over low to medium-low heat in a small saucepan. – Weigh the heated phase ingredients into a small heat-resistant glass measuring cup. Place the measuring cup in your prepared water bath to melt everything through. Stir occasionally as the mixture heats to ensure the powders are evenly distributed. – After about 20–30 minutes everything should be completely melted through. Remove the water bath from the heat, remove the measuring cup from the water bath, and dry it off with a dishtowel. Set the measuring cup on a towel or hot pad to insulate it from the counter and stir the mixture with a flexible silicone spatula to combine everything. – Quickly add the cool-down phase, stir to incorporate, and pour the product into its container. Gently and quickly transfer the product to the fridge and chill to cool. – Once the product has set up, remove it from the fridge and let it come to room temperature. – To use, massage a small amount of the product into dry skin. Wet your hands, and massage your face again; you’ll notice the balm transforming into creamy milk! Wipe the product off with a damp cloth.
