Description Frankincense – Eritrea Powder Frankincense, also known as Olibanum, is an aromatic resin obtained from Boswellia trees in Eritrea. It has been traded across the Arabian Peninsula, North Africa, and the Horn of Africa for over 5,000 years. Frankincense is used in perfumery, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and aromatherapy. When used as incense, this finely powdered resin releases a balsamic-spicy aroma with subtle lemon notes and a conifer-like undertone. Traditionally, it is used in aromatherapy to lift mood and support a sense of well-being. Frankincense has a long history in religious and spiritual practices. It is used in many Christian churches, including Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, and Catholic traditions. In the Gospel of Matthew (2:11), frankincense was one of the gifts presented to Jesus by the Magi. Across Abrahamic faiths, it has also been used with oils to anoint newborns, initiates, and individuals entering new phases of spiritual life.
